Ghostbusters Connections

This page will document many of the connections to the Ghostbusters franchise in other media. This page will NOT list every single connection there is. Connections that involve movie filming locations are, appropriately enough, on the Filming Locations page. What makes it onto this page is entirely up to me. This page will not contain the latest connections as I simply can't update often enough for that. Please do NOT send me connections as I have more to add than I can handle right now. Plus I like to personally verify them, and provide multimedia for them. Maybe in the future I will accept them, though it would only be from people would could provide me with a complete copy (not just the Ghostbusters connection part) of the connection media (such as VHS or DVD for videos), but that won't happen any time soon.

Connections are broken down into the following categories:

* Trivia: A fact-based connection to a Ghostbusters production. This can also include some interviews of Ghostbusters cast and crew and behind-the-scenes footage.
* Reference: A Ghostbusters production is referenced or a homage paid to it in a subsequent media. For example, a still/poster/artifact; mentioned by name; scene discussed by characters; dialog quoted in non-spoofing way.
* Spoof: A joke reference to a Ghostbusters production is made in a subsequent media.
* Featured In: Extracts from a Ghostbusters production are featured in a subsequent media. For example, characters attend a cinema screening showing a Ghostbusters production or the audio from a Ghostbusters production is heard on a television.
* Edited Into: Actual footage from a Ghostbusters production have been edited into a subsequent media to form part of the newer media.

In some cases there may be a connection media that fits into more than one of those categories. Since I'm only going to list each item once, I will place it in the category that fits the best, based on my own personal judgment.

Crew Member Practical Jokes
While shooting the 1984 movie Ghostbusters, Bill Murray paid a security guard to tell Sigourney Weaver that her luxury car had experienced a little accident. Weaver rushed to her parking spot only to find a burned-out hunk of junk sitting in her reserved space. Seems Murray had secretly moved her car and replaced it with a similar-looking vehicle used in an explosion scene for another production. Fast-forward to 2000: during filming of their movie, Company Man, Weaver and visiting buddy Dan Aykroyd arranged to have Bill's beloved Rolls-Royce filled to the rim with puffy white marshmallows. (According to IMDb, Bill Murray had a cameo in the film, but his appearance was cut.) -- Information from the Q&A segment of a cable company advertisement, which contained a section called "The Inside Scoop". Provided by Winston Kozan on 3/24/2000.

The Arsenio Hall Show: Harold Ramis (June 1989)
During the course of the interview to promote Ghostbusters II, Harold and Arsenio talk about Slimer in the new movie and The Real Ghostbusters animated series.

Arsenio: You, ah, wanted to make some changes on this. And I heard you wanted to take Slimer out?!?
Harold: [laughs] Well, it's funny. Slimer got to be a star on the cartoon show, which I know you worked on. So, you worked with Slimer.
Arsenio: Absolutely. Frank Welker did the voice of Slimer for us in the cartoon.
Harold: Well, he got ...
Arsenio: I was ... I was the black guy.
Harold: Right.
[audience laughs]
Harold: I think we got jealous of Slimer 'cause he was such a star with little kids.
Arsenio: Yeah.
Harold: But we thought ... I don't know. It was ... it was tricky to work him in the film, but we decided ultimately he belonged in there.

This game has been released on many different systems, but only the NES version published by Activision contains the Ghostbusters II screen. This is one of several episodes that has actual film clips from Ghostbusters edited into it as part of the episode.

---------------------------------------------------------------

The What NOW Caper! (1989)
A very cheesy film made to promote NOW Comics and give you an inside look at how comic books are made. You may recall seeing ads for this in The Real Ghostbusters comics. It was promoted as starring some of the NOW Comics characters, such as The Real Ghostbusters. In actuality, a few clips from The Real Ghostbusters opening title sequence were edited into the film near the end. I guess that's what they consider "starring". Some behind-the-scenes footage of the making of The Real Ghostbusters comics book series is shown. Also, Ghostbusters II movie posters are seen on the walls in some scenes. I cover this video in more detail on the NOW Comics Videos page.
