Ghostbusters Connections
This page will document many of the connections to the Ghostbusters franchise in other media. This page will NOT list every single connection there is. Connections that involve movie filming locations are, appropriately enough, on the Filming Locations page. What makes it onto this page is entirely up to me. This page will not contain the latest connections as I simply can't update often enough for that. Please do NOT send me connections as I have more to add than I can handle right now. Plus I like to personally verify them, and provide multimedia for them. Maybe in the future I will accept them, though it would only be from people would could provide me with a complete copy (not just the Ghostbusters connection part) of the connection media (such as VHS or DVD for videos), but that won't happen any time soon.
Connections are broken down into the following categories:
* Trivia: A fact-based connection to a Ghostbusters production. This can also include some interviews of Ghostbusters cast and crew and behind-the-scenes footage.
* Reference: A Ghostbusters production is referenced or a homage paid to it in a subsequent media. For example, a still/poster/artifact; mentioned by name; scene discussed by characters; dialog quoted in non-spoofing way.
* Spoof: A joke reference to a Ghostbusters production is made in a subsequent media.
* Featured In: Extracts from a Ghostbusters production are featured in a subsequent media. For example, characters attend a cinema screening showing a Ghostbusters production or the audio from a Ghostbusters production is heard on a television.
* Edited Into: Actual footage from a Ghostbusters production have been edited into a subsequent media to form part of the newer media.
In some cases there may be a connection media that fits into more than one of those categories. Since I'm only going to list each item once, I will place it in the category that fits the best, based on my own personal judgment.

TRIVIA

Horror Movie Icons
Two horror icons starred in the Ghostbusters franchise: Michael Myers & Jason Vorhees. George Wilbur played Michael in Halloweens 4 & 6 and Tom Morga played Jason in Friday The 13th Part 5. In addition to this, several GB cast/crew appeared in the Friday The 13th film series.

"Goosebumps" book series
"Goosebumps" author R.L. Stine wrote the "Ghostbusters II" storybook (published by Scholastic) under the pseudonym "Jovial Bob Stine."

Musical Acts
The band Blues Traveler got their name from Gozer The Traveller (and The Blues Brothers), as documented by Pop-Up Video. Another band named themselves after a Ghostbusters character: Slimer. And still one more named themselves after the car: Ecto-1 (archive).

MacGyver (1985-1992)
Ghostbusters shares more than one connection to this television series. Randy Edelman composed the theme song. Christopher Neame and Erik Holland appear in the episode "Deathlock" (Season 1). Christopher Neame and Michael Ensign appear in the episode "Legend of the Holy Rose" (Season 5).

Star Trek: "The Trouble With Tribbles" (December 29, 1967) (Season 2)
There are three Ghostbusters connections to this famous episode. It stars Walter Koenig, it guest stars Michael Pataki, and it was written by David Gerrold.

Star Trek: The Next Generation: "Relics" (October 10, 1992) (Season 6)
The Aldebran Whiskey was actually Hi-C Ecto Cooler. (from Trekkies: Trivia page)

Crew Member Practical Jokes
While shooting the 1984 movie Ghostbusters, Bill Murray paid a security guard to tell Sigourney Weaver that her luxury car had experienced a little accident. Weaver rushed to her parking spot only to find a burned-out hunk of junk sitting in her reserved space. Seems Murray had secretly moved her car and replaced it with a similar-looking vehicle used in an explosion scene for another production. Fast-forward to 2000: during filming of their movie, Company Man, Weaver and visiting buddy Dan Aykroyd arranged to have Bill's beloved Rolls-Royce filled to the rim with puffy white marshmallows. (According to IMDb, Bill Murray had a cameo in the film, but his appearance was cut.) -- Information from the Q&A segment of a cable company advertisement, which contained a section called "The Inside Scoop". Provided by Winston Kozan on 3/24/2000.

The Computer Chronicles: "Games" (January 21, 1985) (KCSM TV, San Mateo, California)
David Crane talks about and demonstrates his then-new Ghostbusters computer game.
You can watch the entire thirty minute program for free (the Crane segment runs from 17:41 to 22:55).

Masters Of Fantasy: "Dennis Muren" (199?) (Sci-Fi Channel)
Ivan Reitman is interviewed in his office (where he has various Ghostbusters artifacts displayed), and Dennis shows the Slimer and Scoleri Brothers clay models used in Ghostbusters II.
Picture Descriptions:
1. Cel of Ghostbusters as seen on the cover of "The Atlantic" in the film Ghostbusters and a Slimer model -- both in Ivan Reitman's office/home.
2. Ivan Reitman in his office/home (notice the Ghostbusters memorabilia on the left side of his desk).
3. Slimer and Scoleri Brother clay models in Dennis Muren's workshop.
4. Scoleri Brother clay models in Dennis Muren's workshop.

The Arsenio Hall Show: Harold Ramis (June 1989)
During the course of the interview to promote Ghostbusters II, Harold and Arsenio talk about Slimer in the new movie and The Real Ghostbusters animated series.
REFERENCE

Charmed: "I've Got You Under My Skin" (October 14, 1998) (Season 1)
Inspector Darryl Morris (Dorian Gregory) asks Inspector Andy Trudeau (T.W. King) if his favorite movie is Ghostbusters. Trudeau says that it is Evil Dead II.

Weird Al Yankovic - "Slime Creatures From Outer Space" (1985)
At the VERY end of the song, right when it fades to complete silence, you hear this: Who you gonna call? Slime creatures!

Will Smith feat. Dru Hill - "Wild Wild West" (1999)
Will doesn't mention the Ghostbusters by name, but instead uses the fan-accepted initial abbreviation "GB" as heard in this segment of the song:
FEATURED IN

Hero (1992)
A clip from Ghostbusters is shown in this Columbia Pictures film. Thirty-one minutes into the film, we see a kid watching the Sedgewick Hotel scene on a small TV, as his dad (played by Dustin Hoffman) visits his mother downstairs.
EDITED INTO

Muppet Babies "I Want My Muppet TV!" (October 26, 1985) (Season 2)
This is one of several episodes that has actual film clips from Ghostbusters edited into it as part of the episode.

The What NOW Caper! (1989)
A very cheesy film made to promote NOW Comics and give you an inside look at how comic books are made. You may recall seeing ads for this in The Real Ghostbusters comics. It was promoted as starring some of the NOW Comics characters, such as The Real Ghostbusters. In actuality, a few clips from The Real Ghostbusters opening title sequence were edited into the film near the end. I guess that's what they consider "starring". Some behind-the-scenes footage of the making of The Real Ghostbusters comics book series is shown. Also, Ghostbusters II movie posters are seen on the walls in some scenes. I cover this video in more detail on the NOW Comics Videos page.
