Fun Facts

  • In some parts of the United States (such as here in New York, Long Island to be exact) this episode was pre-empted for the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon. It first aired in those parts the following Sunday, September 7, 1997
in Syndication. Darkness At Noon Part 2 aired as scheduled on September 2nd, which left us New Yorkers wondering what we missed in part 1!
  • Q: In the "Darkness At Noon" saga, Egon said that the weapons had to be upgraded and modified in order to capture Achira. Yet, on other GB sites, it says that the EGB's weapons aren't as powerful as the RGB's weapons. Who's right?
A: What would be the point of making new weapons *unless they're more powerful?* From everything we've gathered on the subject, the EGB weapons are far superior. In the final 2 episodes, "Back In The Saddle 1 & 2," Egon warns the "OGB" that the new weapons have a bigger kick ... When they fired 'em up, Peter, Ray and Winston were almost knocked off their feet! In fact, the new weapons allowed the EGBs to handle creatures which the RGB's weapons had no effect on -- such as trolls and gremlins. For example, in the RGB episode "Troll Bridge," Egon read in Tobin's Spirit Guide that the proton guns would either turn the trolls into stone or mutate them. In the EGB episode "Rage," the EGBs use their guns on the trolls, and they didn't turn into stone or increase in size. Another example is the RGB episode "Don't Forget The Motor City," in which the RGB had to deal with gremlins. Peter mentioned that their equipment worked on ghosts and not on gremlins. However, in the EGB episode "Grease," the EGBs zapped and trapped a gremlin quite exceptionally. So, after looking over this evidence, I can only conclude that the reason why the EGB's weapons work on these kinds of entities is because, while Egon and Roland were modifying the weapons, Egon added a few extra modifications (just in case the EGBs would ever have to deal with some of the same situations as the RGBs). I believe the term Garrett used when helping build the new equipment was "Supe it up!" Egon had nothing to do, except research ... Of course he'd want to be prepared for all types of entities of any supernatural power. Egon didn't spend those years alone with Slimer just eating and watching the tube ... He knows how important it is to be prepared for anything! (answer written by "Sparky Genocide" and Doreen Mulman)
  • Q: What did happen to the old crew besides Egon? Did they just get bored or what?
A: It is assumed that they left the ghostbusting business so they they can go on to live their lives. After all, there were no more ghosts, so there was nothing else for them to do but pursue other ventures. In "Back In The Saddle", we learned what those other ventures were: Ray sells used cars (if I remember correctly) and does some lecturing on the side, Winston got his pilot's license, Peter ... well, I don't really remember what Peter did.
  • Q: If a living human being is shot with a neutrona wand and then someone opens a trap, will their soul get sucked into the trap or will nothing happen?
A: In a case of possession (i.e. Achira in Kylie's body) the ghost would be trapped ... but a non-possessed person would die without a soul (i.e. The Ghostmakers ep). Besides, the blast, itself, would probably kill a human. But perhaps for the purpose of a fan fiction, a scenario could be set where an extreme case of a "magical curse" has somehow caused the person's soul to be replaced or disattached from its natural hold on the flesh. If the curse could keep the body functioning without the soul in residence, then theoretically, if the soul is still hanging around, you may be able to trap the soul while the body still survives.

Eduardo: What's up with that weird chick Kylie. She's such a big fan of this ghost stuff. So where is she?
Garrett: I think somebody has a little thing for Vampira.
Eduardo: Oh yeah right, scrawny girls who talk to ghoulies really float my boat.
