Comparisons by "Ecto-1" (August 2, 2005)

All of the images displayed are his original ImageShack-hosted images. Even though they are scaled down a bit, they are still a bit large, so the rest of this page may take some time to load - especially since the images are coming from the ImageShack server. All of the text was written by him from his original message board post (which requires registration to view).

Ghostbusters (1999/2005)

The disc features an updated and essentially stripped down menu. The main menu is basically the 1999 Ghostbusters menu altered. The image angles have changed as well as the location of various menus. The lightning striking the top of the Shandor Building has been multiplied to strike from different angles instead of just one. For those of you concerned about the titles looking funky, fret not; the letters actually hover up and down at different times.

SCENE SELECT

Basically the same, except brighter and the Shandor animation has been tweaked.

SPOOK CENTRAL

Spook Central basically encompases all the various menus from the first release on two screens. By clicking their title, you're taken to their sub menus where you can access the features...still the same as before. But gone are the animations that take you into the menus. Mostly likely to save on space or maybe just a cheap short cut.

SCENE CEMETARY

The same deleted scenes remain (though the audio quality of the Honeymooners scene is worse). Aside from the new menu, the only other difference is the "Bums" scene is now called "Burns". Sony needs to invest in some spellcheck.

SPECIAL F/X

The new Special F/X menu has gone from a ghost trap to a building with an orange hue.

The menu has gone from a piece of equipment to a building, which seems to be the prevailing theme on these DVD menus.

The Production Photos menu is now an edited version of the eclipse scene of the Shandor Building.

Aside from some adjustment to the brightness, the new aspect of the production photos themselves is the addition of Slimer as a cursor to make your selections; exclusive to this section only.

Finally, the Conceptual Drawings have gone from a drawing board menu to the firehouse. However, the actual images are on the drawing board background still.

STORYBOARDS

Much like the Concept Drawings, the Storyboards have gone from an elevator (presumably at the Sedgewick) to the firehouse. The Gallery (below) also got a few tweaks. The screen where you select the actual storyboards to see remains the same.

FEATURETTES

Replacing the Grab Bag from 1999 is a Featurettes menu where you can access the featurettes from 1984 and 1999.

COMMENTARY TO LANGUAGE

The original Commentary menu has been recycled into the new Language Select menu.
