New Game Screens From Game Informer

Permalink Sep. 20, 2008 at 2:41 AM , Categories: Internet, Games
The latest issue of Game Informer magazine (October 2008, Issue #186, Star Trek Enterprise on the cover) has a two-page spread of Ghostbusters: The Video Game screens and a write-up on the staff's experience with the library demo level. I have taken the liberty of scanning in these two pages, as well as providing larger scans of the seven unique images seen below that accompany the article (the other seven are ones we've already seen in better quality). These have all been added to my game page, along with the other things listed far below, as I've just brought the pages up to date.

GB Video Game Information Archive - Multimedia
* The Game Informer screens as seen above.
* Pause menu screen shots from DreadCentral's Comic-Con demo video.
* Some Comic-Con image links. Look for the three items below "GameStop July 2008 Promo Package".
* Lots of new video links added. Everything at the very bottom of the page from "G4 Preview With New Footage (July 21, 2008)" down to the end.

GB Video Game Information Archive - News
* Everything from July 26, 2008 to the bottom of the page. This includes the full text from the new Game Informer article, scans of both pages (as seen below), and the cover image for reference (also seen below).

Oh, and for the record, until the new publisher is announced and all game-related pages are moved from Sierra.com to the new publisher's site, I'm going to leave Sierra's name at the top of my game page and leave the Sierra.com links alone.

From the "Am I The Only One Who Didn't Know About This?" File...

There is now apparently an official Ghostbusters franchise forum (as linked to from the official franchise MySpace page). I went to check it out, but you need to register for an account just to VIEW posts. I hate shit like that. Of course, with at least two great Ghostbusters forums already in the community - both of which can be viewed any ANYONE - there's no need for this interloper.

[UPDATE - 9/20/2008]
I thought that might be the official Ghostbusters forum because it's linked to what is presumably the official Ghostbusters MySpace page. However, I'm actually not entirely sure where it says ANYWHERE that that MySpace page is official (as in "put up by Sony"). It looks snazzy, and being that it's so laden with credits and copyrights on the page AND in the photos, it gives off an air of authenticity, but it could all just be a clever rouse.

Since Sony has the prime Ghostbusters.com domain, and hasn't done squat with it in 10 years, why would they waste that name and use a MySpace profile for what would be better used at Ghostbusters.com?!? Troy from GBHQ mentioned in the comments below that the mods on this forum were old GBHQ newbies and one of their first forums was trashing Sony saying another studio should get the franchise. So that, coupled with the fact that this forum is being hosted by a free forum hosting service, seals the deal about this forum being UNofficial. I mean, if all of us could run forums and/or blogs on our own sites/servers, why wouldn't Sony? Surely they'd be much more likely to have an official forum at forum.ghostbusters.com rather than forumotion.net.

So after careful reconsideration, I'm going on record as saying that that is NOT the official Ghostbusters forum. As for the MySpace page, I'm still undecided about it's authenticity, though supporting an unknown forum on a free hosting service doesn't look good in my opinion.

The whole "official" thing throws me. Official to whom? The mods were old GBHQ newbies and one of their first forums was trashing Sony saying another studio should get the franchise. Sure the Myspace is pretty snazzy but...

Hi Troy

I *thought* it was the official forum because it's linked to what is presumably the official MySpace page. Come to think of it, I'm actually not entirely sure where it says ANYWHERE that that MySpace page is official (as in "put up by Sony"). Like you said, it looks snazzy, and being that it's so laden with credits and copyrights on the page AND in the photos, it gives off an air of authenticity. However, it could all just be a clever rouse.

Would Sony actually use a MySpace profile as a marketing tool like that? I'm sure other companies have done it, but seeing as how they have the prime Ghostbusters.com domain, and haven't done squat with that site in 10 years, why would they waste that name and use a MySpace profile for what would be better used at Ghostbusters.com?!?

Thank you for shedding a little light on who's behind the new forum. I will admit that I was rather suspicious of it being at a free forum hosting service.

As for the MySpace page, I'm still undecided.

By the way, it actually took me a minute to figure out what you were talking about. I couldn't figure out what "official" had to do with the new game media. Then I remembered that I put up that bit about the forum at the end because I didn't want to bother starting a new post for it :-)
